In June we teamed up with social enterprise Ahead Partnership to host an ecology day at Beaconsfield Services. Ahead Partnership works with a number of businesses across the UK to connect young people to opportunity, inspire confidence, and encourage them to think about their future with purpose.
As part of the ecology day, 56 Year 4 students from a local school were invited to tour the site, meet with volunteers from Extra, and have their say in improving its biodiversity.
Some standout ideas included a duck house and a bug hotel (Bugingham Palace in Buckinghamshire)! We’re now exploring whether aspects of these designs can be realized on-site.
Feedback from the ecology day was fantastic:
- 98% of young people involved said it improved their motivation to protect the environment
- 93% said it developed their teamwork skills
- 91% said it improved their self-belief and confidence in their ideas.
We are currently working with Ahead Partnership to understand how we can implement similar initiatives across Extra MSAs in the future.
