Local students design new eco-installations for our Cobham site

Our Cobham site has seen the installation of two, brand-new sustainability boosting features on site, thanks to the brilliant minds of local primary school students who recently came to visit.

Visiting in an adventure to learn more about biodiversity, 29 students from Saxon Primary School and Walton Oak Primary School designed and pitched their own eco-features for the site, which our senior team then approved for construction.

We have now unveiled the new installations, revealing a duck house and a bug hotel on the site grounds, providing local wildlife with a place to stay and our visitors with a new feature to see.

The initiative formed part of our ongoing collaboration with social-value specialist Ahead Partnership, which has allowed us to engage with hundreds of students to date on a range of important topics, including ecology, sustainability, EV charging, and the wider green agenda.

Volunteers from the team shared their first-hand insights of working with ecology, while delivering an exciting programme of events to the students, which included a site-wide tour and a wildlife safari across Cobham’s scenic lakeside walk.

100% of the attending students recorded a positive experience of the day, who all reiterated that the day’s activities helped them to understand more about the local environment.

Our ESG Manager, Michael Grantham, said: “At Extra MSA, we’re committed to investing in a greener tomorrow, and recognise that the next generation have a huge role to play in securing this.

“We are so thankful to those students involved, whose innovation has allowed us to take another step in the right direction for sustainability, and deliver something positive for the wildlife on site.

“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Ahead Partnership to generate further impact of this kind.”

Megan Lipp, Head of Growth, at Ahead Partnership, said: “In addition to their growing understanding of ecology, we have been really impressed by the strong teamwork, creativity and communication skills that we have seen the participating students develop through this event.

“We are so pleased to see the impact of our continued collaboration with Extra MSA, who are providing hands on learning experiences to enhance young people’s classroom understanding of ecology, as well as their own ESG outputs.”
