Breathing easy: How we’re improving air quality across our sites.
We’ve been on a journey (pun-intended!) since launching our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy in 2024.
Prioritising customer wellbeing is a key facet of this strategy, which includes ensuring that all of our service areas have fantastic hygiene standards, amenities such as dog walking trails and children’s play areas, as well as accessibility to drinking water.
A significant focus for us recently has been air quality. Through our partnership with Clarity, we’ve now introduced external air quality monitoring equipment across all eight of our sites. Clarity’s software produces monthly reports on pollutant levels, allowing us to then implement solutions to improve outdoor air quality.
At the beginning of our partnership, we were encouraged to find that monthly average concentrations of pollutants at all our sites were already well below World Health Organisation guideline levels, but we’re not stopping there.
We have been rolling out air quality monitoring inside the amenity areas for the first time, integrating them with the Building Management Systems at our five busiest sites. These systems ensure that fresh air is circulated, helping to limit the spread of illness, reduce fatigue, control odours, and enhance the overall experience for our employees and customers.
We’re now focused on rolling out advanced technologies across our remaining sites, using real-time data to pinpoint opportunities for improvement. By doing so, we’re working to ensure every location in our portfolio meets best-in-class standards for air quality and customer wellbeing.
Your journey matters, and so does your health. At Extra, we’re proud to be making motorway stops cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone.
