We’re committed to doing whatever it takes to reduce our environmental impact and we’ve taken a big step in that direction with one of the largest single-site solar PV projects at a UK motorway service area.
Thanks to our partnership with Spirit Energy, our Beaconsfield Services is seeing 840 rooftop solar panels installed, and the positive impacts they will bring are incredible.
The new system will generate up to 356,006 kWh of clean energy every year, significantly reducing our overall environmental impact and saving us up to £44,000 per year on electricity costs, which can be reinvested into the business.
This installation follows on from the 810 solar panels added to our Cobham site last October, which will generate up to 305,159kWh of clean energy and save us an estimated £75,000 every year.
Both projects have been in collaboration with Spirit Energy and their impact will fast-track our mission of reducing our grid energy consumption by 35% by 2030.
Other investments we’ve made across our locations include a series of air source heat pump installations to improve air quality indoors and outdoors as well as expanding our EV charging infrastructure via continued partnerships with IONITY and GRIDSERVE.
Michael Grantham, ESG Manager at Extra MSA, said: “Exploring low-carbon opportunities across our portfolio is central to our sustainability commitment.
“Not only will this help us shrink our carbon footprint, but it will enable us to reinvest savings back into the people that make Extra such a welcoming and comforting environment: our team and our customers.”
“From enhancing the customer experience to making our services more sustainable, we’re proud to be setting a new standard and driving long-term change across the motorway network.”
