Simpler recycling is coming to Extra MSA services

Today is Global Recycling Day and at Extra MSA we are busy preparing for March 31st when the government’s new simpler recycling guidance will come into effect for workplaces.

This guidance was announced last November and introduces a legal duty for all workplaces to separate recycled waste in the following categories:

  • Dry recyclable materials – plastic, metal, glass, paper and card.
  • Food waste.
  • Black bin waste.

In response to this, we will be removing bins from the common areas of our service stations as this allows us to separate waste internally and ensure as much as possible is recycled correctly.

We have an instrumental position in delivering the government’s net zero emissions targets by creating a sustainable environment so we would like to thank our customers for helping us with this new simpler recycling system by, where possible, taking rubbish home with them.

In the last year the recycling rate at Extra MSA services has increased by 20%, thanks to both customers and staff being more attentive. Our target remains to achieve 100% in the zero-waste index by recycling or reusing 75% of operational waste by 2030 and diverting all waste from landfill.

Michael Grantham, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Manager at Extra MSA said: “We’re dedicated to deliver positive change and transition to greener practices across our service stations and these new recycling guidelines are an important step in the right direction.

“We have already seen the recycling rate improve greatly in the last year and by Extra taking on the responsibility for sorting the waste, we believe we can continue to make further improvements.”
